DHAKA, Sept 7, 2026 (BSS) - Local Government, Rural Development (LGRD) and Cooperatives Minister Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan today congratulated the government and people of Malaysia on the occasion of the country's 69th National Day and Malaysia Day, expressing hope that Bangladesh-Malaysia relations would become deeper and more multifaceted.

He extended the felicitation while speaking as the chief guest at a programme organised at a city hotel to celebrate Malaysia's National Day, said a press release.

Ambassadors and high commissioners of different countries to Bangladesh attended the programme.

Recalling the long-standing friendly relations between Bangladesh and Malaysia, Moyeen Khan referred to the visit of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman in 1979 to Malaysia and the recent visit of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to the country.

He said bilateral trade between the two countries currently stands at around US$3 billion.

"There are opportunities to further expand trade as well as cooperation in free trade, investment, energy, digital infrastructure, electric vehicles and advanced technologies," the minister added.

Emphasising the need to ensure safe and transparent migration for Bangladeshi workers in Malaysia, he said the two countries should work together to prevent unscrupulous syndicates from exploiting people seeking employment abroad.

Calling for increased cooperation in education, skills development and cultural exchanges, Moyeen Khan expressed hope for Malaysia's constructive role in resolving the Rohingya crisis.
