DHAKA, Sept 7, 2026 (BSS) - Prime Minister's Finance and Planning Adviser Prof Dr Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir today stressed making investment production-oriented to create employment opportunities in the country.

"Bangladesh's economic strategies must be determined in line with the changing geopolitical and geo-economic situation and employment opportunities must be created by directing investment towards production," he said. 

The adviser made the remarks as the chief guest at a dialogue on "Bangladesh Economy and Development Studies" organised by the Department of Development Studies of Dhaka University (DU) at Professor Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury Auditorium on the campus here.

Titumir said, "Bangladesh first. Our philosophy is Bangladesh for all, Bangladesh with all and Bangladesh belonging to all. That is why it is our responsibility to fulfill all the promises mentioned in the manifesto. Our new model is from investment to production. We have to move to investment and it has to be production-oriented."

Highlighting the importance of energy security and an efficient communication system, he said no business investment would be viable without a secure energy infrastructure.

Referring to growing foreign investors' interest in Bangladesh, the adviser said China has already come to Bangladesh, while the United States and South Korea are interested in making further investments.

Japanese investors want to establish manufacturing industries here, he said, adding that political stability is a major factor in this regard.

At the event, the Department of Development Studies accorded a reception to Dr Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, a professor and former chairman of the department. 

DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr ABM Obaidul Islam was present at the function as the guest of honor with department's Chairman Prof Dr Nayeem Sultana in the chair.

At the programme, Prof Dr Mohammed Abu Eusuf of the department highlighted various aspects of Professor Titumir's life, education, research and professional career while former Vice-Chancellor of the university Prof Niaz Ahmed Khan spoke on the development, importance and role of development studies in Bangladesh's development process.

National Professor Dr Mahbub Ullah, Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) Fellow Prof Dr Mustafizur Rahman, Dean of DU Social Sciences Faculty Prof Kazi Mohammad Mahbobor Rahman and former Dean Prof Dr Taiabur Rahman were present at the event, among others.
