Heritage carnival held at Begum Rokeya University

RANGPUR, Sept 9, 2026 (BSS) - Vivid depictions of archaeological sites from the ancient and medieval civilizations of Bengal and Egypt came to life at the Heritage Carnival- 2026 held at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) today.

The students from the Department of History and Archaeology of the university organised the daylong event to showcase the rich past and traditional culture of Bengal and Egypt to everyone.
 
Vice-chancellor Professor Dr Showkat Ali inaugurated the festival at university cafeteria.
 
Among the archaeological models created by the students of the department were Lalbagh Fort, Sixty Dome Mosque (Shat Gombuj Masjid), Kantaji Temple, Nayabad Mosque in Dinajpur, Somapura Mahavihara, Shalban Vihara, and ancient city of Gaur.
 
Replicas of Pyramids of Egyptian civilization and the mummy of the Pharaoh Tutankhamun were also displayed at the carnival.
 
Additionally, many students participated in the carnival by dressing up as various historical figures. Some appeared as the Egyptian Queen Nefertiti, others as priests of ancient Bengal, and some as traditional brides from rural Bengal.
 
Assistant Professor in the Department of History and Archaeology Sohag Ali said that the primary objective of this event is for students to gain practical knowledge regarding the history and archaeology they study in textbooks.
 
Mehedi Hasan, a student from the Department of Sociology of the university visiting the heritage carnival, said that the initiative by the Department of History and Archaeology is certainly praiseworthy.
