BGB seizes smuggled goods, narcotics, illegal sand extraction equipment

DHAKA, Sept 9, 2026 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized smuggled goods, narcotics and equipment used for illegal sand extraction in separate drives along the country’s northern, southeastern and hilly-border areas.

The seizures were made in Dinajpur, Thakurgaon, Rangamati, Rangpur and Feni, according to five separate press releases issued by the BGB headquarters here this evening.

In Dinajpur and Thakurgaon, troops of Dinajpur Battalion (42 BGB) recovered 144 bottles of sexual stimulant syrup, 160 tablets, 46 yaba tablets and 27 Indian tapentadol tablets worth about Tk 79,000.

The items were recovered from separate areas of Biral, Haripur and Ranishankail on September 8 and 9.

In Rangamati, troops of Marishya Battalion (27 BGB) seized 101.19 cubic feet of teak timber worth Tk 4,55,355 from the Trainingtilla check-post area in Baghaichhari. The timber was found abandoned.

Meanwhile, Rangpur Battalion (51 BGB) arrested six people allegedly involved in illegal sand extraction from the Teesta River and seized a dredger and other equipment worth Tk 14.56 lakh from Mesherghat.

The seized equipment included pipes, two battery-run auto-rickshaws, a motorcycle and mobile phones. The arrestees were handed over to Patgram Police Station after cases were filed against them.

In Feni, troops of Feni Battalion (4 BGB) seized Indian cannabis and smuggled goods, including sarees, kamizes, facewash, biscuits and chocolates, worth Tk 52.91 lakh during separate drives along the Parshuram and Chhagalnaiya border areas.

Legal proceedings are underway in connection with the seizures. The respective battalion commanders said intelligence operations and border patrols would continue to prevent smuggling, narcotics trafficking and other cross-border crimes, the releases added.
