Govt reconstitutes Public Procurement Committee to strengthen oversight

DHAKA, July 5, 2026 (BSS) - The government has reconstituted a committee to make public procurement activities more effective and strengthen oversight of procurement-related decisions, according to a Cabinet Division press release issued today.

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman has been appointed chairman of the committee.

According to the release, the committee will determine the working procedures of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs and the Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement. 

It will also review the provisions of the Public Procurement Act, 2006 (PPA) and the Public Procurement Rules, 2025 (PPR) that fall under the jurisdiction of the two cabinet committees and recommend measures to improve their effectiveness.

The committee will also carry out any additional responsibilities assigned by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs and the Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement.

Other members of the committee are Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud, Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir, Prime Minister's Public Administration Affairs Adviser Md Ismail Zabihullah, State Minister for Shipping and Bridges Md Rajib Ahsan, State Minister for Local Government Mir Shahe Alam, Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani, Finance Division Secretary Dr. Md. Khairuzzaman Majumder and Bangladesh Public Procurement Authority Chief Executive Officer S.M. Moin Uddin Ahmed.
