Bandarban district council distributes scholarships worth Tk 1.5 crore

BANDARBAN, July 5, 2026 (BSS) - The Bandarban Hill District Council today distributed scholarships worth Taka 1.5 crore among meritorious and financially disadvantaged students studying at different educational institutions in the district.

The scholarship distribution ceremony was held at the district council auditorium this afternoon under the initiative of the Bandarban Hill District Council.

Chairman of the Bandarban Hill District Council Professor Thanjama Lusai handed over scholarship money to 1,323 students studying at schools, colleges and universities across the district as the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, the chairman said education is the main instrument for the development of a nation and that the district council has been providing scholarships regularly to encourage students in their studies by helping them overcome financial difficulties.

He also said the council would continue such initiatives in the future to improve the quality of education in the hill region and support talented students. He called on local institutions, alongside the government, to play a greater role in the education sector.

Chief Executive Officer of the district council Mohammad Nazrul Islam, Bandarban Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Muhammad Abul Mansur, district council member Md Nasir Uddin, and students from various educational institutions were present on the occasion.

The organisers said a total of Taka 1.5 crore in scholarships had been distributed among 2,779 students in two phases, adding that the programme would continue in the coming years as well.
