DHAKA, July 26, 2026 (BSS)-Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury has announced the establishment of a100-bed accommodation facility at the Hajj Camp for the overseas bound migrant workers requiring emergency lodging.

The minister made this announcement while visiting the Hajj Camp in city’s Ashkona area here this morning.

The minister said the initiative is being implemented by his ministry following the directive of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and a proposal from the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

He noted that the ministry currently operates the Wage Earners' Centre, which has accommodation for 49 people. However, to ease the sufferings of migrant workers during emergencies, particularly during the delaying or cancellation of the flights, an additional 100-bed facility will be set up at the Hajj Camp near Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

The new facility will include 50 beds for men and 50 beds for women. The project will be fully financed by the Wage Earners' Welfare Board under the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment.

Highlighting the government's migrant-friendly policies, Chowdhury said the government is committed to expanding services and facilities for expatriate workers.

"Flights are often delayed or cancelled due to conflicts, adverse weather, or other unforeseen circumstances. During such situations, overseas-bound workers frequently face accommodation problems at the airport. The new facility at the Hajj Camp will significantly reduce their hardship," he said.

Among others, Secretary of the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Md. Mokhtar Ahmed, Religious Affairs Secretary Munshi Alauddin Al Azad and senior officials of the Hajj Camp, were present at that time.
