Arrest warrant issued against Hasina, 285 others in sedition case

DHAKA, Aug 14, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today issued arrest warrants against 286 people including ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in a case filed against them for their alleged involvement in anti-state activities and treason.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam passed the order, taking into cognisance the charge sheet filed in the case. The court also set September 11 for filing a report on execution of the arrest warrants.
 
Earlier investigation officer of the case and the CID Assistant Superintendent of Police, Md Enamul Haque filed the charge sheet at the court.
 
The CID official on March 27, 2025, filed the case against 73, including Sheikh Hasina. He was given the authority to probe the case under Section 196 of the CrPC. After a detailed investigation, the investigation officer filed the charge sheet today against 286 people.
 
According to the case documents, an online meeting of leaders and activists of Awami League and its front organisations was held on Zoom on December 19, 2024. 

The participants at the meeting vowed to form “Joy Bangla Brigade” to bring back Sheikh Hasina and put her into power again through civil war and continue their war till their last breath.
 
A total of 577 people, including Sheikh Hasina herself, participated in the meeting from different countries. Hosted by Dr Rabbi Alam, the participants at the meeting pledged not to allow the interim government to run the country peacefully.
