Travel ban imposed on wife of ex-chairman of Samabaya Bank

DHAKA, Jan 2, 2025 (BSS) – A court here today imposed travel embargo on Nurjahan Begum, wife of former Samabaya Bank chairman Mohiuddin Ahmed Mohi over graft allegations.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Zakir Hossain passed the order, allowing a plea of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). Earlier the court imposed travel ban on Mohiuddin Ahmed Mohi.

Investigation officer ACC assistant director Md Monirul Islam filed the plea before the court.

According to the case documents, ACC is probing allegations against Nurjahan Begum of concealing information about wealth of Taka 14.70 lakh, amassing illegal wealth of Taka 1.19 crore, among others. The ACC plea said the accused is trying to flee the country to evade justice.

ACC deputy director Md Jahangir Alam filed separate cases against Mohi and his wife on October 16. Mohi is accused of amassing illegal wealth of Taka 2.70 crore. He was also allegedly involved in the disappearance of over 13,000 bhori of gold deposited with the state-run bank by borrowers as collateral.
