Ex-DNCC councillor Monjur remanded in murder attempt case

DHAKA, Jan 02, 2024 (BSS) - A court here today placed former councillor of ward-25 of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Abdullah Al Monjur on a three-day remand in a case lodged over attempt to murder one Saiful Islam Mitul during Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ziadur Rahman passed the order as police produced Monjur, also the vice-president of Tejgaon thana Awami League (AL), before the court and pleaded to place him on a 10-day remand in the case.

Police arrested Monjur from the capital's Uttara-14 area today .

According to the case documents, Mitul joined a rally demanding resignation of the then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Purana Paltan intersection in the morning of August 5. 
Police along with AL goons attacked the rally, firing indiscriminately at the protesters. Mitul received shrapnel injuries at  his eyes, head and back  .

He filed the case with Paltan Model Police Station on December 4 last.
