DHAKA, Jan 7, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today ordered to freeze three bank accounts of Awami League leader and former state minister for housing and public works Sharif Ahmed.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order, allowing a plea of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Deputy director of the anti-graft body Md Nurul Huda filed the plea, saying ACC is probing allegations against Sharif, also a former lawmaker of Mymensingh-2 constituency, for amassing huge illegal wealth in his and his family members names. He is allegedly trying to transfer the money elsewhere to evade justice.

Meanwhile, the same court also ordered to freeze bank accounts of Munsi Sazzad Hossain, accountant of the National Institute of Diseases of the Chest and Hospital (NIDCH), allowing a separate plea of the ACC.

Sazzad is accused of ignoring ACC notice for submitting wealth statement.
