DHAKA, Jan 9, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today placed former lawmaker of Comilla-8 constituency Nasimul Alam Chowdhury on a three-day remand each in a case lodged over the murder of one Md Shahjahan in the capital's Mohakhali area during the student-led July-August mass uprising.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sanaullah passed the order as police produced Nasimul, also the vice-president of Comilla district Awami League, before the court and pleaded to place him on a seven-day remand in the case.

Nasimul Alam Chowdhury was arrested from Helmet Tower in the capital's Banani area on December 30, 2024.

According to the case documents, Md Shahjahan joined a peaceful rally of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in the Mohakhali Flyover area on July 19.

Cadres of Awami League and its front organizations attacked the rally, firing indiscriminately at the innocent people.

Shahjahan received bullet injuries during the attack and succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) four days later.

Md Shahjahan's mother Sazeda Begum filed the case with the Banani Police Station on December 18 against 97 people, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
