Chashi Nazrul’s 10th death anniversary tomorrow

DHAKA, Jan 10, 2025 (BSS)- The 10th death anniversary of noted film maker Chashi Nazrul Islam will be held tomorrow.

On the occasion Jatiyabadi Sangskritik Jote will arrange various programme, a press release of the jote said.

Chashi Nazrul was born on October 23 in 1941 at Samoshpur village under Srinagar thana of Bikrampur district. Noted film director Syed Mohammad Awal brought him to film industry in 1961.

He worked as an assistant of noted film director and actor Fateh Lohani and journalist and film maker Obayed ul Haque.

He revealed himself as a film director in 1972 through making his historic film “Ora Egaro Jon”, first movie on the War of Liberation war in the post independent Bangladesh.

Ekhusey Padak laureate Chashi Nazrul achieved numerous awards including the National Film Award for several times. He was four-time elected president of Bangladesh Film Directors Association.

Former president of Jatiyatabadi Sangskritik Jote, Chashi Nazrul was associated with many social, cultural and professional bodies.

He was the highest film maker on the liberation war and literature based films. His famous movies are- Liberation War based film Sangram, Hangor Nodi Grenade, Megher Pore Megh, literature based film Debdas, Subodha, Chandranath, two films on Tagore’s stories Suva and Shasthi, Bankim Chandra’s Bishbrikhha, Biroho Bethya and Shilpi Hasan Raja.

He also made documentary on three political leaders- Sher-e Bangla AK Fazlul Huq, Moulana Bhasani and Shahid Ziaur Rahman.
