5 kidnapping-gang members arrested, 1 rescued

DHAKA, Jan 11, 2025 (BSS) – Police has arrested five members of a kidnapping gang and rescued an abducted victim from Sheorapara area of Mirpur in the capital.
 
The arrested were identified as Md. Alam Hossain, 40, Md. Monir Ahmed, 35, Md. Kabir, 34, Md. Mofizur Hossain Johnny Molla, 44 and Mst Sufia, 35, said a media release of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

Mirpur Model Police Station of DMP on Friday arrested them after conducting a raid at a house on Iqbal Road in Sheorapara area of Mirpur at 9:00 pm.

Police said fabric trader Russell Khan from Gazipur had been buying and selling fabrics from various companies in Dhaka for a long time. Through this fabric business, he met Ayna alias Kazli.

On January 9, Kazli asked Russell Khan to come to the Sheorapara area to buy fabrics. Russell, in good faith, came to the Bata showroom near the Mirpur Metrorail Station at 2:00 pm on Friday.

Later, Kazli asked him to go to Sufia's house to see fabrics on Iqbal Road in the Sheorapara area.

When Russell reached the house, some miscreants forcibly locked him in a room and snatched Taka 35,000 in cash along with a mobile phone and documents.

Then, they took the PIN codes of bKash and Nagad wallets of him and bagged another Taka 40,000.

The kidnappers then called Russell's mother, father, wife and friend Elahi from Russell's phone and demanded a ransom of Taka 10 lakh by threatening them.

Victim Russell's friend Elahi informed the Mirpur Model Police about the kidnapping, and the police quickly rescued the victim and arrested the kidnappers.

Police identified the location of the victim and the kidnappers with the help of intelligence information and technology.

A knife, Taka 14,000 in cash and five mobile phones were seized from the possession of the kidnappers.

A case was filed at Mirpur Model Police Station against the arrested five and 3/4 unidentified persons based on the complaint of victim Russell.

The arrested were sent to the court in the case of Mirpur Model Police Station.
