Ex-lawmaker Shafiul sent to jail

DHAKA, Jan 12, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sent to jail former lawmaker
from Dhaka-10 constituency and ex-president of Federation of Bangladesh
Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin in a case
lodged over the murder of one Abdur Rouf in the capital's Uttara area.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate GM Farhan Ishtiyak passed the order as police
produced him before the court after end of his three-day remand in the case.

Earlier on January 9, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Zakir
Hossain remanded Shafiul in the case. Police arrested him from his residence
at Sector-4 on road 13 of Uttara on January 8.

Abdur Rouf joined anti-discrimination student movement rally on July 18 in
front of Uttara BNS Centre. At one point, police and Awami League (AL) cadres
opened fire at the protesters injuring many. Rouf got shot on his chest and
died on the spot.

On January 8, Rouf's brother Md Sakib Hasan filed the case with Uttara West
Police Station in this connection.
