DHAKA, Jan 12, 2025 (BSS) - Anti-Discrimination Employees Unity Forum (ADEUF) today praised the government on the formation of committees to provide advice on recruitment, transfer and discipline for the posts of divisional commissioner, deputy commissioner, deputy inspector general of police, and superintendent of police.

Coordinator, ABM Abdus Sattar made the statement on behalf of the Anti-Discrimination Employees Unity Forum, said a press release.

The statement said that the government has formed three high-level committees to provide recommendations on recruitment, transfers, and discipline of senior officials under the Ministry of Public Administration, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and senior officials in the police administration.

The committees would provide advice for the posts of joint secretaries and above of the three government ministries as well as divisional commissioner, deputy commissioner, deputy inspector general of police, and superintendent of police in field-level.

The statement mentioned that the forum noticed the gazette notification of the cabinet division, saying that this decision is very timely for the officials of the republic to perform their respective duties in a smooth, fearless and lawful manner.

On behalf of the forum, the coordinator praised the interim government for taking such a decision, requesting the members of the committees to give advice unanimously, and the government to always keep a vigilant eye on whether there is any stagnation in the activities of the government by delaying decision-making in the administration.

The statement mentioned that during the regime of Ershad government, attempts were also made to run the administration through committees, but it ended in failure.

It, however, said the immediate concern of them is that some 40/42 secretaries, more than a hundred additional secretaries, several hundred joint secretaries and equivalent level officials of the autocratic government have not yet been removed/withdrawn as they are in the core position in public’s administration.

These officials are still trying to carry out various subversive activities by maintaining secret communication with the ministers/members of parliament of the previous autocratic government, it added.

The statement feared that there is a possibility to hinder any step such as transfer/withdrawal/removal of the accomplice officers of the dictatorship due to various social/family and other grounds.

“If such an incident occurs, it will be a betrayal of trust with the spirit of the student-public led uprising,” read the statement.

It also opined that it is possible to establish good governance by appointing efficient, hardworking, honest, and diligent officers, believe in spirit of the student-public anti-discrimination movement, in every stage of the administration.

The ADEUF called upon the Chief Advisor for immediate withdrawal/removal of the ally of the previous fascist government from the administration, and exercising his good judgment and taking appropriate decisions to establish good governance in the state.
