DHAKA, Jan 13, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today ordered the authorities concerned to attach immovable assets worth Taka 5,17,35,000 of former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal's APS Md. Monir Hossain in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

At the same time, eight bank accounts in his name have also been frozen.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md. Zakir Hossain Galib issued the order as the ACC made a plea for it.

ACC Assistant Director Md. Nasrullah Hossain filed the plea seeking the attachment of his immovable property and freezing of his movable assets, while Public Prosecutor (PP) Mahmud Hossain Jahangir moved it before the court. The court granted the application after the hearing.

The plea mentioned that Md Monir Hossain has taken possession of property worth Taka 18 crore 82 lakh 56 thousand 142 beyond his known income source.

He also opened a business establishment in his own name and made numerous suspicious transactions by transferring a total of Taka 31 crore 31 lakh 70 thousand 834 to bank accounts used in the name of himself and his establishment.

Regarding the issue, the ACC has filed cases against him for committing punishable offence under Sections 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, and sections 4(2) and 4(3) of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2012.

It also said that he is trying to sell or transfer his property elsewhere. The transfer of immovable property before the settlement of the case might cause loss of  the state.

So, it is absolutely necessary to appoint receiver attaching the immovable property and freezing movable assets.
