DHAKA, Jan 15, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today placed Salman F Rahman, former
private industry affairs adviser to ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, and
former state minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak on a four-day remand each in
a case lodged over attempt to murder Dhaka College student Md Shamim during
anti-discrimination student movement.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Imran Ahammed passed the order as police
produced the two accused before the court today and pleaded to place them on
a seven-day remand each in the case.

According to the case documents, students of Dhaka College brought out a
peaceful rally in support of the anti-discrimination student movement in
front of their college on July 16. Cadres of Awami League and its front
organizations attacked the rally, firing indiscriminately at the students. Md
Shamim received shrapnel injuries on his face in the attack.

He later filed the case with the New Market Police Station on November 28.

Salman F Rahman, one of the stalwarts of the former autocratic government of
Sheikh Hasina, was arrested from the capital's Sadarghat area on August 13 as
he was trying to flee the capital along with former law minister Anisul Huq
through the waterways. Palak was arrested from the capital's Nikunja area the
next day.
