5 fraudsters arrested, four stolen cars recovered

DHAKA, Jan 15, 2025 (BSS) - Police have arrested five fraudsters from Dhaka, Gazipur and Narayanganj districts along with four stolen cars worth about Tk 3 crore.

The arrested have been identified as Zarak Ahmed, 38, Abul Kalam Riftiyar, 38, Md Jamir Hossain, 36, Md. Sajal Ahmed, 30, and Abdur Rahman Rubel, 56.

Acting on a tip-off, police arrested them, conducting a series of raids in Dhaka, Gazipur, and Narayanganj districts on Tuesday night, said Deputy Commissioner of Police of Tejgaon Division Ibne Mizan at a press briefing held at the DMP media centre here.

Police said Md. Imdadul Haque Khan alias Naushad, 42, is a car dealer who has a car showroom in the city's Tejgaon.

Managing Director of AB Drive Ltd. Zarak Ahmed, 38, and Chairman Md. Jamir Hossain, 36, took four cars from Imdadul for sale at different times from November 26 to December 4 last year for their showroom located in the Nardda Pragati Soroni area under Bhatara Police Station.

When Imdadul wanted back his cars, the arrestees did not return the cars; rather, they started intimidating him.

Imdadul later realised that the arrestees had fraudulently moved the cars to another place from the showroom of AB Drive Ltd for embezzlement.
 
On January 5, Imdadul filed a fraud case with Tejgaon Police Station against Zarak Ahmed, Md. Jamir Hossain and two to three unidentified persons.

The police station, with the help of intelligence information and technology, arrested Zarak from the Gulshan Link Road area.

Following information provided by Zarak during the primary investigation, police conducted raids in Kaliakoir and Kashimpur areas in Gazipur and arrested Abul Kalam Riftiyar and Md. Jamir Hossain.

Police also recovered two cars from Aftab Nagar area of ??Dhaka city following their information.

Police later arrested Md. Sajal Ahmed and Abdur Rahman Rubel.

According to the information obtained during their interrogation, a Toyota Welfare jeep and a Toyota Harrier jeep were also recovered from the possession of Md. Saidur Rahman from the Link Road Bhuigarh area under Fatulla Police Station in Narayanganj district.
