Travel embargo slapped on Hasina's ex-PA Jahangir, family members

DHAKA, Jan 15, 2025 (BSS) -A court here today imposed travel ban of Jahangir Alam, former private secretary (PS) of ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, his wife Mst Momena Begum, two sons Muhtasim Alam and Muntasim Alam.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order, allowing a plea of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Investigation officer of the case ACC assistant director Rakibul Hayat filed the plea, while ACC public prosecutor Mahmud Hossain Jahangir moved the petition before the court.

"Former PS of then prime minister Sheikh Hasina, and former secretary of Health Services Division (forced into retirement) Jahangir Alam is accused of amassing illegal wealth of Taka 15,000 crore at home and abroad in his and his family members names and laundered money abroad. The ACC is probing these allegations," the petition said.

The ACC plea further said the accused are trying to flee the country and their escape can hamper the investigation process. So, the travel ban should be imposed against them, the petition added.
