Babar released from jail after 17 years

DHAKA, Jan 16, 2025 (BSS) - Lutfozzaman Babar, former state minister for home affairs under the BNP-Jamaat alliance government was released from the jail today after 17 years,  as he was cleared of every charges that include 10-truck arms haul case and August 21, 2004 grenade attack cases by the apex court.  

Babar who was in jail from 2007 walked out of the Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj at 1:45pm today, jail sources said.
 
Thousands of leaders and activists of the BNP, who thronged in front of the prison gate with holding national party and party flags since dawn, welcomed their leader Babar with flowers.

A heart-rending scene was created as tears of joy were seen in the eyes of many leaders and activists at the release of their leader after a long time.

In an immediate reaction, leaders and activists of Netrakona BNP said, “We are happy, we are very happy. “

Lutfuzzaman Babar was elected as a member of parliament from Netrokona-4 constituency as an independent candidate in the fifth national parliament election of 1991.

Then, on February 15, 1996 and 2001 respectively, he was elected member of the parliament (MP) from Netrakona-4 constituency as a candidate of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in the sixth and eighth national parliament elections. He served as the State Minister for Home Affairs in the eighth parliament.
