2 held with huge foreign cigarettes in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Jan 17, 2025 (BSS) - Chattogram district police arrested two people along with four sacks of foreign cigarettes worth Tk 15 lakh from Rangunia Municipality area of the district on Friday morning. 

Police also seized a CNG-run auto rickshaw in this connection. 

The arrested men are Dipankar Barua, 45, son of Roy Mohan hailed from Putibila village under ??Lohagara upazila of the district and Omar Faruk, 30, son of Abul Hossain, hailed from Boga Chattar Union of Longadu upazila under Rangamati district.

Police said a team of Rangunia Thana police conducted a raid in front of Sohag Municipality Community Center on Kaptai Road and arrested them with the cigarettes and a CNG auto-rickshaw at around 9:30 am. 

The estimated value of the seized cigarettes is TK 15 lakh.

Sabbir Mohammad Selim, officer-in-charge of Rangunia Thana police said two people were arrested along with four bags of cigarettes, a CNG auto-rickshaw during a drive in the aforesaid area.
 
A case was filed against them with Rangunia thana for violating the import policy, he added.
