Ex-BFIU chief Masud Biswas sent to jail

DHAKA, Jan 18, 2025(BSS) - The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) arrested former chief of Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) Masud Biswas from the city's Mirpur area here last night.

An ACC team led by its Deputy Director (DD) Gulshan Anwar Prodhan arrested him with the help of the Detective Branch (DB) of Police. 

He was produced before the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate and prayed for confining him into jail till the end of the investigation of the case. Metropolitan Magistrate Masuma Rahman, after hearing the statement of the prosecution side, ordered to send him to jail. 

Masud Biswas, an executive director (ED) of Bangladesh Bank, was the head of the BFIU for a long time and terminated from the service after the change over on August 5.

The ACC on January 2 filed a case against Masud Biswas for acquiring wealth worth about Taka 1,87,72,622 that is beyond his known source of income. The ACC also instructed to submit the wealth statement of his wife as early as possible.

Md Akhter Hossain, Public Relation Officer (PRO) of the ACC, told BSS that Masud Biswas was sent to the court with a remand prayer as per legal process. His remand hearing will be held in the court tomorrow.
