HC acquits Giasuddin Al Mamun in arms case

DHAKA, Jan 20, 2025 (BSS) - The High Court (HC) today acquitted businessman 
Giasuddin Al-Mamun of all the charges in an arms case in which he was 
convicted and sentenced to 10-year imprisonment by the lower court concerned.

A High Court division bench of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice 
Nasreen Akter pronounced the judgment, allowing an appeal filed by Mamun.

Senior Advocate Mohammad Sayeed Ahmed and Advocate Sabbir Hamza Chowdhury 
moved the appeal before the court while Deputy Attorney General Sultana Akter 
Rubi stood for the state.

Police filed the case with the capital's Cantonment Police Station on March 
26, 2007. Dhaka Metropolitan Special Tribunal-2 convicted Mamun on July 3, 
2007, sentencing him to 10-year in jail. 

Giasuddin Al-Mamun filed the appeal against his conviction in the same year.
