Reform is ongoing process: Khandaker Mosharraf

DHAKA, Jan 20, 2025 (BSS) - BNP standing committee member and former Health Minister Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain today said reform is an ongoing process so these cannot be completed within a specified timeframe.

He was addressing a discussion organized by Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) marking the 89th birth anniversary of BNP founding chairman Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.

Mosharraf said Ziaur Rahman’s life and works have four important aspects as a soldier, a president, a politician and a human being.

“As a soldier, Ziaur Rahman declared the war of independence for the country and led it. He was the only military officer who declared the first rebellion against Pakistan. He led as a sector commander and commander of Z Force. Later, he was honoured with the title of Bir Uttam. Nothing more is required for a soldier’s life than this,” he said.

Mosharraf said Ziaur Rahman was elected President of Bangladesh in the first referendum as he radically changed the country during his almost four years tenure .

 “Ziaur Rahman introduced Bangladeshi nationalism which no one else could do. He brought back multi-party democracy. He gave a 19-point programme for the economic development of the country,”

DAB President Prof Dr. Harun Al Rashid chaired the discussion which was jointly moderated by Senior Joint Secretary General Dr. Md. Mehedi Hasan and Joint Secretary General Dr. Sarkar Mahbub Ahmed Shamim.

DAB Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Farhad Halim Doner, Secretary General Dr. Md. Abdus Salam, DAB Adviser Dr. Shahidur Rahman, Vice Presidents Dr. Rejwanur Rahman Sohel, Dr. Golam Sarwar, Dr. Zahirul Islam Shakil and Dr. Faruk Kashem, Office Secretary Dr. Md. Fakhruzzaman Fakhrul, Principal of Dhaka Medical College Dr. Kamrul Hasan and its Vice Principal Dr. Faruk Ahmed also spoke.

BNP Executive Committee member Khaleda Yasmin, DAB leaders Dr. Md. Jahedul Kabir Zahid, Dr. Jahangir Alam, Dr. Khalilur Rahman, Dr. Syed Imtiaz Uddin Sajid, Dr. Abdullah Al Mamun, Dr. Arifuzzaman Palash, Dr. Basedur Rahman Sohel, Dr. Galib Hasan, Dr. Jawad Hossain, Dr. ASM Rakibul Islam Akash, Dr. Saiful Alam Badsha, Dr. Mahbub Sheikh and more than a hundred doctors and professionals were present.
