No directive issued from DMP to postpone theatre festival

DHAKA, Feb 15, 2025 (BSS) - The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has clarified that it did not issue any directive to close or postpone the Dhaka Metropolitan Theatre Festival -2025 which was suspended citing security concerns.

“DMP didn’t issue any directive to postpone the Dhaka Metropolitan Theatre Festival 2025,” said a DMP official release issued this evening addressing recent media reports and statements from relevant authorities regarding the festival’s postponement.

The statement emphasized the DMP’s commitment to supporting creative and artistic activities in the city saying, “The police department actively encourages such endeavors.”

DMP also expressed uncertainty over the reasons behind the festival's postponement and reiterated their stance on fostering cultural events.

Besides, the police department assured that it remains vigilant to prevent any untoward incident surrounding the festival and continues its efforts to ensure the safety and security of cultural events in the city.
