BRAC University BCL president sent to jail in murder case

DHAKA, Feb 16, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sent to jail Md Ibrahim Ansari
Apurba, 24, president of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of BRAC
university unit, in a case lodged over the killing of a pedestrian Toufikul
Islam during the anti-discrimination student movement.
 
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Masuma Rahman passed the order as police
produced Apurba before the court and pleaded to keep him behind bars.
 
Police arrested the BCL leader from the city's Bashundhara Residential Area
on February 15.
 
According to the case documents, Toufikul Islam Bhuiyan, 43, got shot and
died in front of the Buddhist temple in Badda on July 19. His wife Ismat
Jahan Elora filed the case against 113 including ousted prime minister Sheikh
Hasina.
