Ex-MP Sanowar, 2 others remanded in attempt to murder case

DHAKA, Feb 17, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today placed three Awami League leaders including former Tangail-5 lawmaker Md Sanowar Hossain on a three-day remand each in a case lodged over an attempt to murder one Mithun Fakir, 28, during the anti-discrimination student movement.
 
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate GM Farhan Ishtiak passed the order as police produced the three before the court and pleaded to place them on a seven-day remand each in the case.
 
The other two persons are- Brahmanbaria Sadar upazila Awami League vice-president Md Abu Musa Ansari, 56, and the capital's DNCC ward-40 Awami League vice president Md Salauddin Salek alias Salek Dhali, 58.
 
Earlier on February 16, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Masuma Rahman sent the trio to jail and set today for holding a hearing on the remand plea.

Police arrested them in separate drives from the city's Bhatara area yesterday.
 
According to the case documents, Mithun Fakir joined an anti-discrimination student rally in the Basundhara J Block area at 10 am on August 5. He was attacked and brutally beaten a little later. Mithun filed the attempt to murder case on December 19.
