Operation Devil Hunt: 294 held in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Feb 17, 2025 (BSS) - During the last nine days of the Operation 
Devil Hunt, the joint forces have arrested 294 people from all eight 
districts of Rangpur division, including Rangpur metropolis. 
 
The arrested people are leaders of Awami League and its associate bodies and 
arrested in connections with attacks on the anti-discrimination student 
movement processions, murder cases and attempted murder cases.
 
Out of the detainees, 45 leaders and activists of Awami League (AL) and its 
affiliated organisations have been arrested from eight districts of the 
range, including Rangpur city, during the last 24 hours ending at 6 am today. 
 
Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md. Majid Ali told reporters that 
two more persons were arrested under the Operation Devil Hunt from Rangpur 
metropolis in the last 24 hours.
 
They are former general secretary of the Rangpur Metropolitan Kotwali Thana 
unit Omar Faruk and caretaker of the metropolitan Awami League office Abdur 
Rashid.
 
On the other hand, Rangpur Range DIG Md Aminul Islam said 43 leaders and 
activists of the AL and its affiliated organisations have been arrested from 
all eight districts under Rangpur Range in the last 24 hours.
 
Of them, 17 people have been arrested from Kurigram, seven from Dinajpur, six 
from Lalmonirhat, five each from Thakurgaon and Panchagarh, and one each from 
Rangpur, Nilphamari and Gaibandha districts under the range.
