Ex-state minister Kamal Majumder on 5-day remand in murder case

DHAKA, Feb 19, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today placed former State Mnister for Industries Kamal Ahmed Majumder on a five-day remand in a case lodged over the murder of Anwar Hossain Patwary in the Golchattar area under Mirpur police station in the capital during the anti-discrimination student movement.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate MA Azharul Islam passed the order as police produced him before the court and pleaded to place him on a five-day remand.

Dhaka Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Omar Faruk Farooqui conducted the remand hearing.

Police arrested Kamal Ahmed Majumder from the capital's Gulshan area on the night of October 19. He was subsequently shown arrested in several cases and placed on remand for those cases.

According to the case statement, Anwar Hossain Patwari was shot dead in Mirpur's Golchattar area on August 5, the same day the Awami League government was overthrown, amid the anti-discrimination student protests.

His father, Al Amin Patwari, filed a murder case with the Mirpur Model Police Station in connection with the incident later.
