SP Tanvir Salehin on 7-day remand in murder case

DHAKA, Feb 19, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today granted a seven-day remand to Superintendent of Police (SP) Tanvir Salehin Emon, posted at the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sardah, Rajshahi.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate MA Azharul Islam passed the order in a case lodged against him for shooting and killing businessman Abdul Wadud in the capital's New Market police station area during the anti-discrimination student movement.

Police produced him before the court from the jail, pleading for a seven-day remand, while Dhaka Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Omar Faruk Farooqui conducted the remand hearing in the court.
    
Earlier on February 11 a team of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested him from the Sarda Police Academy at around 10 pm. The next day, he was produced before the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court.

Then, the investigation officer of the case, Police Inspector Md. Amjad Hossain Talukder of DB, Dhanmondi Zonal Team, sought him on a seven-day remand.

As there was no original copy of the case available on that day, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate MA Azharul Islam ordered to send him to jail and fixed Wednesday for the remand hearing.


According to the case statement, businessman Abdul Wadud died in police firing in the Nilkhet area under New Market police station in the afternoon of July 19 during the anti-discrimination student movement.

In this incident, his brother-in-law Abdur Rahman filed a murder case against 130 people, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Road and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader.

Tanvir Salehin Emon is the 28th accused in the case.
