DHAKA, Feb 21, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami (BJI) Amir Dr Shafiqur Rahman called upon all concerned to properly evaluate the contribution of language martyrs along with those who played significant role in this historic movement.

He made the remarks at a discussion on the occasion of International Mother Language Day at the National Press Club here today.

Dhaka South City unit of Jamaat-e-Islami organized the meeting with central majlis-e-shura member and Dhaka south city Nayeb-e-Amir Abdus Sabur Fakir in the chair.

Central working council member and Dhaka south city secretary Dr Shafiqul Ialam Masud conducted the event.

Speaking on the occasion, Jamaat-e-Islami Amir said, “Bangladesh has ousted fascists . . . But we haven’t yet been freed from the sufferings of fascism.”

Recalling the contribution of language movement heroes with due respect, he said, “We have repeatedly requested to show due respect to the blood of the martyrs and the wounded brothers and sisters. Do not humiliate their blood, life, their dignity and their emotions as well”.

The contribution of this movement should be recognized as much, he said, posing a question, “Where is the difficulty in giving recognition to the role played by Professor Golam Azam Saheb in the language movement, Justice Abdur Rahman Chowdhury and others?"

The Amir said, “If I do all the misdeeds that the fascists used to do, then I am also a fascist.”

He was very critical of the price spiral of essentials and said due to the extortion in the different Ghats or terminals, prices of commodities are going up putting pressure on the working people and even on the street people and beggars.

The Jamaat chief urged all to build a strong social resistance in this connection.

Earlier, as part of the week-long programme on the occasion, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Dr Shafiqur Rahman inaugurated a free medical camp including, blood grouping, blood donation and medical care at its Dhaka South City office in the city.
