Anisul, Mamun remanded in mass uprising killing cases

DHAKA, Feb 26, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today placed former law minister Anisul Huq and former inspector general of police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun on different terms of remand in separate cases lodged over killings those took place during the student-led July-August mass uprising.

Of the two, Anisul was placed on a three-day remand in Wasim Sheikh murder case filed the capital's Jatrabari Police Station, while he was placed in another three-day remand in a case lodged with the same police station over the murder of Zihad Hossain.

The former police chief Mamum, on the other hand, was placed on a three-day remand in the Zihad Hossain murder case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sefatullah passed the orders as police produced Anisul and Mamun before the court and pleaded to place them on a five-day remand each in the case lodged over the murder of Zihad Hossain. Police later pleaded to place Anisul Huq on another three-day remand in Wasim Sheikh murder case.

Anisul Huq was arrested from the Sadarghat area on August 13, 2024, as he along with Salman F Rahman was trying to flee the capital through the waterways.
