PANCHGARH, Feb 26, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Dr. Shafiqur Rahman today vowed to live together with all, saying that his party does not accept any majority or minority in the country.

“We can’t differentiate between people as minority or majority . . .  We do not accept any majority-minority in this country,” he told this while speaking at a public meeting as the chief guest organized by the District Jamaat-e-Islami at the Panchagarh Sugar Mill ground here this afternoon.

Noting that whoever born in this country is a proud citizen, he added, “We are not in favor of dividing people on the basis of division, religion or party as it was done by the disposed dictatorship earlier. They divided the nation into pieces, putting people face to face.”

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said if people of a country cannot remain united, they cannot stand holding their head high and with respect as well.

“About 54 years of independence have passed, how many years we will stay apart”, he questioned, adding that, “We are all united. We are one nation, our identity is Bangladeshi.”

The amir of Jamaat said, “Of course we will have our ethnic identity, No one should poke fun at anyone’s religion. We absolutely hate and dislike this.”

Mentioning India as Bangladesh’s closest neighbour, he said, “We do not want to create any unnecessary trouble to the neighbour; on the contrary, the neighbour should not impose anything on us that is humiliating for the people of Bangladesh”.

Dr. Shafiqur called upon everyone to stand together for building the country.

Later, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman left for Domar in Nilphamari after holding separate discussions with local Jamaat’s women members and dignitaries at Panchagarh Circuit House.

Panchagarh District Jamaat Amir Professor Iqbal Hossain presided over the public gathering. Jamaat Central Assistant Secretary General Maulana Abdul Halim, Central Working Committee Member Professor Mahbubur Rahman Belal, JAGPA President Barrister Tasmia Pradhan, former Central President of Chhatra Shibir Delwar Hossain Sayedee, Thakurgaon District Jamaat Amir Professor Belal Uddin, among others, also spoke on the occasion.
