Ex-IGP Mamun, former OC Hasan remanded in separate killing cases

DHAKA, March 19, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today placed former inspector general of police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun on a four-day remand and former officer-in-charge (OC) of Jatrabari Police Station Abul Hasan on a two-day remand respectively in two separate killing cases.

Of the two, Mamun was remanded in Md Sayem Hossain murder case, while Abul Hasan was remanded in Russel Bakaul killing case, both filed with the Jatrabari Police Station.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahin Reza passed the orders this noon. The court also showed Mamun arrested in four murder and murder attempt case.

According to the case documents, Md Sayem Hossain joined anti-discrimination student movement rally in front of Hanif Flyover Toll Plaza in Jatrabari area on July 19, 2024. He got shot and died on the spot. His mother Sheuli Akter filed the case on August 27.

Russel Bakaul was killed in police firing in front of Jatrabari Police Station on August 5, 2024.
