CHATTOGRAM, Mar 20, 2025 (BSS) - A team of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) today interrogated detained former lawmaker and Awami League leader Abu Reza Mohammad Nizamuddin Nadavi inside Chattogram jail.

The anti-graft body grilled him as a part of a probe into an allegation against him for misappropriating Tk 10 crore from International Islamic University Chattogram (IIUC).

A team led by ACC Assistant Director of Chattogram Integrated Office-1 Subel Ahmad grilled Nadavi at the conference room of Chattogram central jail, ACC sources said.

A local court approved the application moved by ACC officials for interrogating Nadavi inside jail on March 12 last.

ACC assistant director Subel Ahmed told journalists that Nadavi was the chairman of IIUC Trustee Board and the ACC has been working to probe the allegation against him in embezzling Tk 10 crore fund of IIUC in the name of honarium.

“Earlier, a court imposed foreign travel restriction on him over the allegation and we have interrogated him today as per court order,” he said.

“If the allegation is probed primarily, we will take further legal action against him” he said.

According to allegation, Nadavi, his wife Rizia Sultana Chowdhury and other 16 members of IIUC trustee Board had pocketed unlawfully Tk. 10,01,63000 from the IIUC fund during 3 years from 2021 as honorium as board member.

Apart from the alleged misappropriated amount, Nadavi also received Tk. 10.9 lakh from IIUC Tower fund and took Tk 50 lakh as loan for purchasing a car for him.

Nadavi is in jail as he has been implicated in a number of cases filed with different police stations in the city and districts on charges of murder and attacks during the July uprising.
