2 held with extorted money in capital

DHAKA, March 22, 2025 (BSS) - Police have rounded up two alleged extortionists along with tolls collected from various vehicles in the capital's Babubazar Bridge area.

The arrestees were identified as Md. Parvez, 30, and Md. Taslim, 48, said a media release of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) today.

DMP's Kotwali Police Station came to know that some extortionists were illegally collecting toll from various vehicles, including covered vans, trucks, pickups and vans in the truck stand area under the Babubazar Bridge.

Based on the information, a patrol team of the police station rushed to the spot and apprehended red-handed the duo on Friday at approximately 02:45pm.

Police also recovered extorted money of Taka 6,100 from them.

However, sensing the presence of the law enforcers, 2/3 fellows of them managed to escape.  

A case was filed against the arrested and the absconding ones at the Kotwali Police Station.
