Elderly woman killed in Pallabi building fire

DHAKA, March 25, 2025 (BSS) - A fire that broke out in a 12-storied building in the city's Pallabi area killed an elderly woman.

The fire originated from the 8th floor of the multi-storied building around 6:15pm today, said Media Officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence Talha bin Zasim.

Two units of the fire brigades brought the fire under control with one hour frantic efforts around 7:20 pm today.

A woman named Masuda Begum aged about 70 died in suffocation due to smoke, he said.

Her body was recovered from kitchen room on the eighth floor and was handed over to Rupnagar Police Station.

The cause behind the fire and extent of damage could not be known immediately.
