DHAKA, June 3, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today imposed travel ban on former lawmakers Capt. A B Tajul Islam (Retd), Shahin Chaklader and Masud Uddin Chowdhury and their family members over graft allegations.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order, allowing separate petitions of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Deputy Director (public relations) of the ACC Akhterul Islam confirmed the matters to newsmen.

The court imposed a ban on former Brahmanbaria-6 lawmaker, Capt A B Tajul Islam (Retd), his wife Hasu Islam, their son Dhanad Islam Dipto, daughters Farah Islam Prova and Shama Islam from leaving the country.

The ACC in the petition, against Tajul and his family members said the former lawmaker and his family members have amassed huge illegal wealth and properties in home and abroad including the US and the UK.

The accused are trying to hand over, transfer the movable and immovable properties and leaving the country, so a travel ban should be imposed on them, the appeal added.

Meanwhile, the court also imposed a travel ban on former Jashore-6 lawmaker Shahin Chaklader and former Feni-3 lawmaker Masud Uddin Chowdhury.

In the petition, filed against Masud, the ACC said it is probing allegations of money laundering and irregularities against the former Feni-3 lawmaker, who made transactions of huge money amassed through forgery while sending labourers to Malaysia. Masud may try to flee the country and a travel ban should be imposed on him immediately.

In its plea against Shahin Chaklader, the ACC said it filed a case against former Jashore-6 lawmaker on March 18 for amassing illegal wealth.

“He went into hiding and may flee the country with his family members. A travel ban should be imposed on him immediately,” the plea also said.
