AL leader Murad sent to jail in trader Wadud killing case

DHAKA, June 4, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sent to jail Shahe Alam Murad, 
former general secretary of Dhaka South City unit of Awami League (AL), in a 
case lodged over the killing of trader Abdul Wadud during the July mass 
uprising.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatullah passed the order as police 
produced Murad before the court after the end of his five-day remand and 
pleaded to keep him behind bars till the end of probe in the case.

The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Mohammad Zunayed on 
May 26 placed Murad on a five-day remand in the case. 

Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Murad from the 
city's Uttara area on April 17 last. He was placed on a four-day remand in 
Dhanmandi Riaj murder case on May 12.

According to the case documents, Wadud was shot and killed in the Nilkhet 
area under New Market Police Station on July 19 last year. 

His brother-in-law Abdur Rob filed the case against 130 including the party's 
(AL) president Sheikh Hasina and its general secretary Obaidul Quader.
