One on remand for murder in Rupnagar

DHAKA, June 8, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today allowed one-day remand of a youth for his suspicious involvement in murdering a small trader at Rupnagar area in Mirpur.

Rupnagar thana police has arrested the youth Abu Sayeed Moral on Saturday evening and produced him before the court with a prayer for five-day remand.

Metropolitan Magistrate (MM) Partha Shuvra granted one-day remand after hearing the arguments of the prosecution and the defense lawyers.

According to the prosecution, Shah Alam, a watermelon trader of Rupnagar Milk vita crossing area was mercilessly beaten up by a gang of youths as he protested a mass beating of another youth named Raihan on March 20 last. 

The youths led by local gang star Milton were beating Raihan and tried to take him into a nearby club. As Shah Alam protested, the youths freed Raihan but mercilessly beat up Shah Alam.

Seriously injured Shah Alam died at the hospital later.

Laboni Akhter, wife of Shah Alam, filed the murder case with Rupnagar thana.
