Swechchhasebak League, banned BCL leaders sent to jail

DHAKA, June 10, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today ordered to send two leaders of Awami Swechchhasebak League and recently banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) to jail after ending their remand in an explosive substance act case.

They are Shahidul Islam Nayeem,38, office secretary of Swechchhasebak League, Paltan Police Station unit and Fahad Hossain Bappi,23, former vice president of banned BCL’s Paltan Police Dtation unit.

Court sources said they were produced before the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) by a team of Paltan Thana Police after ending the tenure of their remand. 

Police also prayed for confining them inside the jail till the end of the investigation of the case.

Metropolitan Magistrate Partha Bhadra, on behalf of the CMM, ordered to send them to jail after hearing the petition of the Investigation Officer (IO).

The IO in his petition alleged that these two persons are listed accused in the case and are involved in anti-state activities and anti-state publicity. 

They are the supporters of a banned organization and gathered at Paltan area to carry out subversive activities against the sovereignty, solidarity and public security of the state. 

They also exploded cocktails in Platan area for creating panic among the common people and to harm people or to destroy public properties.

On May 24, police filed a case with Paltan Police Station against the two persons and others under Anti-Terrorism Act and Explosive Substance Act. 

Police later arrested the duo and taken them on one-day police remand from the CMM court.
