3-member committee to probe Rabindra Kacharibari attack formed

SIRAJGANJ, June 11, 2025 (BSS) - The Department of Archeology has constituted a three-member probe committee to investigate into the attack and damage of the Rabindra Kacharibari under Shahjadpur upazila of the district.

Md Habibur Rahman, Custodian of the Kacharibari today told the journalists that the authority had temporarily suspended the access of the visitors into the Kacharibari due to “unavoidable circumstances”. 

The entire situation of the Kacharibari is under the surveillance of the department and the committee has been asked to submit its report within the next five working days, the custodian said.

The committee, headed by the Deputy Director (DD) of the department Sheikh Kamal Hossain, has already visited the damaged Kacharibari today, Habibur Rahman added.

The untoward incident was occurred following an altercation between an expatriate Bangladeshi national Shah Newaz and a staffs of the Kacharibari over parking fee on June 8. 

They also locked into a scuffle at that time and Shah Newaz was detained in the office room by the Kacharibari staffs on that day. The incident spread in the area and the local people became angry with the Kacharibari staffs.
 
Local people on June 10 organized a human chain and protest rally near the Kacharibari and at one stage they entered into the Kacharibari and ransacked its auditorium. On hearing the incident, local people and executive magistrate rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Meanwhile, Md Aslam Ali, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shahjadpur Thana said that Kacharibari custodian Habibur Rahman lodged a case against 50 to 60 people for attacking and ransacking the Kacharibari. He also mentioned the names of 10 to 12 people, who were allegedly involved in the incidents.
