Navy seizes fishing instruments worth Tk 99 cr 21 lac on fishing ban days

DHAKA, June 12, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Navy seized different types of fishing instruments worth Taka 99 crore 21 lac 73 thousand from the fishermen during the 58 days of fishing ban period.

During the period, the Bangladesh Navy conducted 275 operations and captured 3,628,110 meters of illegal current nets, 2,744 other illegal nets, 57 boats, 505 fishermen, and 16,328 kilograms of fish, an ISPR press release said today.

The estimated market value of the confiscated items and fish is Taka 99 crore 21 Lac 73 thousand, the release added.

The seized illegal nets were destroyed in the presence of local administration, law enforcement and fisheries officials, while the confiscated fish were distributed to local orphanages. The detained boats and fishermen were handed over to local authorities.

on April 15 this year, the government-declared 58-day 'Fishing Ban Program -2025', which concluded on June 11, prohibiting all types of fishing by vessels in the Bay of Bengal to ensure proper breeding, conservation, and sustainable harvesting of marine resources.
 
The Bangladesh Navy played a key role in implementing the ban program within the country's maritime boundaries by conducting special operations in the sea and coastal areas.

Bangladesh Navy deployed four warships, numbers of patrol boats and used modern maritime patrol aircraft to strengthen the fishing ban and maintain regular surveillance round-the-clock across the vast Bay of Bengal.
