BCL leader Siam remanded in murder attempt case

DHAKA, Sept 01, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today placed the organizing secretary of the banned student organisation Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Siam Rahman on one-day remand in a case lodged over attempt to murder of Chhatra Dal leader Ariful Islam.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sarah Farzana Haque passed the order as police produced Siam before the court and pleaded to place him on a seven-day remand.

Police arrested Siam from the capital's Adabor area on December 18, 2024.

According to the case documents, leaders of the then newly-formed committee of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal Dhaka University (DU) unit went to pay a courtesy call on DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) on September 27, 2022. As they reached in front of Nilkhet Police Box beside Sir AF Rahman Hall, cadres of the now banned BCL attacked them. 

Later, general secretary of DU unit Chhatra Dal Ariful Islam filed the case 
against 66 on September 30, 2024.
