BGB seizes smuggled goods worth over Tk 177.21 crore in August

DHAKA, Sept 7, 2025 (BSS) - The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized various types of smuggled goods worth over Taka 177.21 crore during raids in the border areas and other places of the country in August last, according to a press release.

The seized contraband includes 13.440 kg of gold, 18.730 kg of silver, 8,739 saris, 4,903 three-piece/shirt-piece/chadar/blanket, 3,977 ready-made garments, 9,603 meters of than cloth, 4,41,172 cosmetics, 41,331 pieces of imitation jewelry, 1,401,513 fireworks, 4,546 cubic feet of wood, 2,194 kg of tea leaves, 7,321 kg of betel nut, 1,376 kg of fertilizer, 45,550 kg of coal, 53,545 kg of yarn/currant/duari net, 865 mobiles, 6,707 mobile displays, 20,104 glasses, 7,220 pieces of vehicle parts, 7,318 kg of cumin, 14,373 kg of sugar, 4,467 kg onion, 8,388 kg garlic, 1,062 packets of various types of seeds, 2,89,961 pieces of chocolate during the period. 

A total 12 trucks/covered vans, 13 pickups/tractors; one trolley, six private cars/microbuses, 156 boats, 40 CNG/easy bikes, 56 motorcycles and 35 bicycles/vans were also seized.

The BGB in August last also seized three domestic/foreign pistols, one revolver, one SMG, three rifles, 16 magazines, 815 rounds of ammunition and eight other weapons.

Also, a large amount of narcotics has been seized by the BGB last month. The seized drugs and narcotics include 1,237,693 pieces of Yaba tablets, 4.601 kg of heroin, 7,888 bottles of Phensedyl, 9,525 bottles of foreign liquor, 167 liters of Bengali liquor, 577 cans of beer, 1,548 kg of marijuana, 2,55,698 packets of bidis and cigarettes, 202 kg of tobacco leaves, 20 bottles of LSD, 1,74,715 narcotic tablets/injections, 4,145 bottles of Escafe syrup, 20,720 Anegra/Senegra tablets and 1,807,490 various types of medicines and other tablets.

In the border operation, the BGB personnel arrested 209 smugglers and 160 Bangladeshi citizens and 11 Indian citizens for illegally crossing the border, said the press release. Legal action was taken against them. 

In addition, 546 Myanmar citizens who tried to enter Bangladesh were sent to their country, it added.
