DHAKA, Sept 7, 2025 (BSS) - BNP standing committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury today said BNP was founded with the objective of establishing democracy and people's rights.

He said, "it is crucial for everyone to understand the context in which the BNP was established. Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman founded the party during a period when Bangladesh was grappling with a lack of democracy, political instability, a collapsed economy, and the suppression of people's political and constitutional rights."

Khasru made the remarks while virtually installing the new California BNP committee.

The programmee took place at the Church of Scientology auditorium in North Hollywood in the evening (local time). It included a discussion session followed by a cultural performance.

The senior BNP leader extended greetings and congratulations to everyone on the occasion of the BNP's founding anniversary and called for unity among all party members. BNP's International Affairs Secretary Anwar Hossain Khokon also joined the event virtually as a special guest.

California BNP President Badrul Alam Chowdhury Shiplu presided over the event while General Secretary M. Wahid Rahman moderated it. California BNP leaders Nazrul Islam Chowdhury Kanchan, Abdul Basit and Shamsuzzoha Bablu, among others, took part in the event.

Leaders and members of various organizations representing the Bangladeshi diaspora in California also attended the event. The cultural segment featured performances by popular artist Samina Chowdhury and the band Freedom Age.
