THAKURGAON, Sept 7, 2025 (BSS) - After a lapse of eight years, the Thakurgaon district BNP is set to hold its long-awaited biennial council tomorrow.
Councillors will elect the new leadership in two posts through voting at the field of Thakurgaon Government Boys' High School.
Eight hundred and eight councilors from the district's five upazilas and three Paurasavas will nominate their leaders for the party's future through voting.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will officially inaugurate the conference at 10am while BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will deliver a speech as the chief guest via online.
The BNP secretary general also visited the council venue this evening.
Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu will be present as the kay speaker. Moreover, Organizing Secretary for the Rangpur division Asadul Habib Dulu, and Co-Organizing Secretaries Abdul Khaleque and Aminul Islam, among others, will take part in the event as the special guests.
According to the local leaders and activists, after a long time, the announcement of the conference has brought great enthusiasm and excitement among the party's leaders and activists.
Many at the local level believe that this event will not only be limited to selecting new leadership but will also inject fresh momentum into future movements and struggles.
BNP General Secretary Mirza Faisal Amin said, "We have organized this conference with everyone's participation, with the goal of building Bangladesh first. This will be a successful and united event."
District BNP Joint Secretary Paigam Ali said, "We have no objection whether the leadership is selected through voting or by selection. We all want to make this conference a success."
Thakurgaon Poura BNP President Shariful Islam Sharif said, "This conference is a result of the immense hardship and sacrifice of BNP leaders and activists during the last anti-autocracy movement. Therefore, whoever comes to the leadership through the councilors' votes at this conference, their leadership will lead the district BNP towards victory in the 2026 election."
