DHAKA, Sept 7, 2025 (BSS) - Police have arrested a man in connection with the incident of snatching a young man's mobile phone and wallet in just 11 seconds in broad daylight in Mohammadpur's Basila area of the capital.

The arrested has been identified as Roman Mia (20).

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kazi Md. Rafiqul Ahmed of Mohammadpur Police Station said police arrested Roman from Chand Udyan area under Mohammadpur Police Station around 11:30 pm on Saturday.

The mobile phone was also recovered, he said, adding that they are in hot pursuit to arrest the other criminal involved in the mugging.

The robbery took place around 11:46pm on Saturday on the 40-foot road of Future Housing in Basila area under Mohammadpur Police Station while a student was waiting for a parcel from the courier service after attending his medical admission coaching, police sources said.

The video of the incident, captured on a closed-circuit camera, went viral on the social media yesterday.

The video shows a man was standing on one side of a busy road filled with auto-rickshaws, motorcycles and private cars. At that time, an auto-rickshaw passed the man (who was standing) and stopped a little distance away.

Two men with chapattis (sharp weapons) got out of the auto-rickshaw and ran around the man who was standing and snatched away his mobile phone and wallet in just 11 seconds.

After the video of the incident went viral, the police took a complaint from the victim last night. Later, the complaint was registered as a case.
