RANGAMATI, Sept 9, 2025 (BSS) - As the water level of Kaptai Lake continues to rise rapidly, the authorities of the Karnaphuli Hydropower Plant have started releasing water by one foot at a time- instead of the previous six inches-through 16 sluice gates since Tuesday morning.

Approximately 18,000 cusecs of water are being discharged every second from Kaptai Lake into the Karnaphuli River, said Mahmud Hasan, Manager of the Kaptai Karnaphuli Hydropower Plant, while confirming the matter to BSS.

He said the water level of the lake had crossed the danger mark, prompting the opening of all 16 sluice gates to release water initially by six inches at a time from 2:45 pm on Monday.

However, due to continued water inflow, the release rate was increased to one foot per opening from Tuesday.
